Spring 2018 Mix

Whoops. Meant to post this about a month ago. Here’s what I was listening to in Spring 2018, which was highlighted by a long-distance visit from a great friend and a trip to Austin for the Levitation music festival (A Giant Dog, Parquet Courts, Ty Segall, Tijuana Panthers, Stonefield, The Garden, Omni, La Luz, Amplified Heat, Pow!, Thee Oh Sees):

  • Car Seat Headrest – Twin Fantasy: Does so many things that can turn me off (wordy, intelligible lyrics, long song lengths, abrupt song transitions), but for some reason it still works for me.
  • Hailu Mergia – Lala Belu: Hand me my NPR tote bag because now I apparently like Ethiopian jazz
  • Shannon & the Clams – Onion: I imagine it’s hard to keep improving when your band is wedded to a specific aesthetic, but this might be the best Shannon & the Clams album yet.
  • Sonny Smith – Rod For Your Love: Probably the most consistent Sonny Smith album, and has a vibe that meshes nicely to play right after you’re done listening to that Shannon & the Clams album. Recommended for Mac DeMarco fans.

On to the mix:
1) Car Seat Headrest – Bodys (no outro)
2) Spike Vincent – Lie In The Dust
3) Hailu Mergia – Addis Nat
